Real Engagement?

I stopped calling students' names and my engagement went UP 200% 1
My rule: I NEVER pick who answers next.
My students do.
It's called Peer Nomination and it works because of 2 psychology principles:
1. It kills the fear - Teacher picking you = threat.
Peer picking you = invitation.
Same task, less cortisol.
2. It creates ownership - It's not MY discussion, it's THEIRS. I'm not the judge, I'm the facilitator.
Teachers, try this in your next lecture. Let THEM nominate.
